Areas of Specialty

Back Pain

The back is a broad term that covers a large area of the body. It is made up of many tendons, ligaments, discs, muscles, and bones. Without a solid understanding of these different parts, it can complicated to locate and address the source of the pain.

Common conditions that may be relieved by chiropractic care include:

  • Disc bulges and herniations
  • Subluxations
  • Muscular sprains and tendon/ligament strains
Bulges / Herniations

Many people who have this condition feel nothing at all. The quality and intensity of it, for those who experience pain, depends on the type and position of the herniation. If the damaged disc is irritating a surrounding nerve, shooting or stabbing pain along with weakness in the legs is often severe.

Subluxations are often quite painful and can disrupt normal movement. Subluxations are one of the most commonly overlooked contributors to back pain. Chiropractors are trained to identify and correct this issue using non-invasive adjustment techniques.

Strains and Sprains

Muscular Sprains and Tendon/Ligament Strains
Strains and sprains in the back tend to involve changes to the alignment of the spine and typically respond well to chiropractic care. These can be extremely painful, and are often accompanied by swelling and bruising of the surrounding area.

Disc Injury

The little pads that lie between your vertebrae are called the intervertebral discs. Each disc has a tough outer ring and a soft gel-like center. The role of each disc is to both join and to separate your vertebrae from one another.

Discs act as cushions, or shock absorbers, so that the bones don’t make contact with each other as you move around, carry large objects, or bend over. Without the discs, you would not have the mobility to move your upper torso.

If you have a suspicion that chronic back pain is caused by a disc injury, or you have received a professional diagnosis, you may benefit from our Elite chiropractic care.

Whether the pain is mild or severe, it is vital to deal with it promptly. Early detection and care can prevent the issue from progressing and causing permanent damage.

When the neck is whipped from back to front during a motor vehicle accident, sports injury, physical assault, or other physical trauma, serious injury may occur to the spine and surrounding soft tissue.

  • Whiplash describes the initial impact. However, the results often include:
  • Disc bulges and herniation
  • Subluxations (misalignment of the vertebrae in the spine)
  • Injured bones in the spine
  • Irritated and damaged nerves
  • Pulled ligaments and muscles in the neck

Signs and symptoms of whiplash usually, but do not always, develop within 24 hours of the injury and may include:

  • Neck pain and stiffness
  • Worsening of pain with neck movement
  • Loss of range of motion in the neck
  • Headaches, most often starting at the base of the skull
  • Tenderness or pain in the shoulder, upper back or arms
  • Tingling or numbness in the arms
  • Fatigue
  • Dizziness

Some people also experience:

  • Blurred vision
  • Ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Irritability
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Memory problems
  • Depression

It is difficult to predict how each person with whiplash may recover. In general, it is wise to consult with your physician and a member of our chiropractic care team to determine the best plan for treatment.

Repetitive Stress / Overuse

Repetitive stress and overuse, or work Injuries, are not from serious accidents, but from overuse and repetitive stress injuries. The most important factor when dealing with a work-related injury is early detection and treatment. It is essential not to ignore pain and discomfort until it requires serious intervention. Common conditions include:

  • Arthritis
  • Backache
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Sciatica
  • Slipped or herniated discs
Shoulder Pain

The shoulder is the most mobile joint in the body, and as a result, it is subject to a wide range of injuries and conditions. Most people do not think about the health of their shoulders until they start to experience pain.

Common injuries of the shoulder can lead to inflammation of the bursae (bursitis) or tendons (tendonitis or tendinitis) and result in a torn rotator cuff with dysfunction, impingement, as well as instability and frozen shoulder.

Arm & Leg Pain

The actual cause of arm or leg pain can be difficult to self-diagnose. The source of your immediate pain may be evident if you have discomfort related to:

  • Stressing a joint through a repetitive pattern at work
  • Dislocating a shoulder during a sport or physical activity
  • Pinching a nerve by falling asleep in an awkward position

The shoulder and hip joints are two of the most mobile and frequently used joints in the body. They are also a frequent site of injury and pain for many people.

Carpal Tunnel Pain

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a painful condition that happens when the median nerve in your wrist is compressed by swelling—often due to an underlying medical condition.

Key symptoms are pain in the hand and arm with numbness or tingling. However, it is a condition that is treatable by a medical professional or our experienced chiropractic care specialist.
